Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
