Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an better service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
